Garmin Nuvi 300 Review

The Garmin Nuvi 300 is a slim designed GPS device that packs many extras. Firstly, the slim design makes it a perfect fit for your purse or pocket. It’s compact and can be taken anywhere easily. Perfect for on the go business trips or vacations. It’s even small enough to take with you on walks thru new cities or vacation spots.

It comes preloaded with map data for US and Europe, and includes many points of interest, such as school zones and safety cameras. You can also set alerts to warn you of upcoming speed zones, etc.

Navigation is quick and easy with the destination data being displayed in under 15 seconds on most trips. You simply touch the anti-glare color screen and enter your required destination, and your results are given in 2D or 3D maps, along with turn by turn voice instructions. You get a countdown to the next turn, and directions are loud and very clear. Instead of “turn right in 100 yards”, you hear “turn right in 100 yards, on Samson Blvd”. There is also a feature that zooms in as you approach your next turn, or directions change. If you veer off your course, the Nuvi 300 will attempt 3 times to steer you back in the right direction, often having you take a side road turn, or a U turn. On the 4th try, if you’re still not where you need to be, it will give up and plot a complete new route to your destination from where you currently are. It’s re-navigation loads quickly and easily, so there’s no need to fear being “lost forever”.

The ease of use is such that even a complete newbie to the GPS device family can use it. Instructions, although not necessarily needed, are included. It comes ready to use straight from the box.

Besides the dependable navigation, the Nuvi 300 also comes with handy travel tools including a JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, and a measurement converter, among many more. It has has an MP3 player and audio book player. A subscription to Audible.com is required for this to operate, however. Just one small set back.

Another small problem for some may be the lack of a multi destination mode, and the lack of an extra odometer plug, which can keep the map in step during a brief loss of satellite connection.

Power choices can be either the rechargeable lithium ion battery, which holds up to 8 hours of life, or the included vehicle power cable.

The Garmin Nuvi 300 is a great GPS device, if you want to go a little farther from the smaller series, and add the MP3 player, and other features. It’s still compact enough for use wherever you intend to travel. Reliable, dependable, and with so many extra features packed in, the Nuvi 300 is a good choice in a personal GPS device.
