Allows playback of high-definition H.264 from US and European DVB-S2 services
CyberLink Corp. today announced cooperation with TV tuner card manufacturer Hauppauge Digital Inc. to create a ready-made software and hardware solution supporting high-definition DVB-S2 viewing, recording and playback on the PC. The joint project includes TV entertainment center CyberLink PowerCinema software and Hauppauge’s WinTV-HVR-4000 TV tuner card.
The collaboration delivers a sophisticated solution allowing the reception, recording and playback on a PC of high-definition MPEG-2 HD and highly compressed MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) TV content broadcast via satellite.
“Our WinTV-HVR-4000 is the first quad mode TV receiver for PC’s, which can receive all the popular TV formats in Europe. As a leading manufacturer of TV tuner cards, it was only natural we’d look for a software company that has CyberLink’s depth of experience in developing TV software for the HVR-4000,” said Ken Plotkin, CEO of Hauppauge.
“HDTV is expected to be a major driving force in the home entertainment market, so it is essential that PC makers incorporate the features that support the best reception, recording and playback quality possible,” said Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. “Of course, what’s required is a quality TV tuner card from Hauppauge matched with the playback and recording features that CyberLink PowerCinema has to offer.”
CyberLink’s PowerCinema offers the following TV functions:
HDTV over Satellite reception and viewing
Playback of MPEG-2 HD and MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) format video
Smooth channel switching, through dynamic recognition of both video formats in standard and high-definition
High-definition MPEG-2 and H.264 video content recording
Support for TV time-shift recording in the MPEG-2 and H.264 formats
Setup of a DVB-S2 tuner via a TV settings wizard to operate new channels that support DVB-S2
Support for satellite TV signals in USA and Europe
Backward-compatibility with previous DVB-S features, including DVB-SI, EPG and Teletext (Europe)
The Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-4000 TV tuner card offers the following features for watching and recording TV on a PC:
Receives high definition DVB-S2 satellite TV
Receives standard definition DVB-S satellite TV and DVB-S satellite radio
Receives DVB-T digital terrestrial TV and DVB-T radio
Receives analog PAL TV and FM radio
Records video from an A/V source such as a VCR or set top box
Hauppauge and CyberLink will ship their solution in Q3 2006.
